Clean water, decent toilets and hygiene are three essentials that help people lead dignified and healthy lives. They should be normal for everyone, but for millions of people they are not. We are determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene a normal part
of everyday life for everyone, everywhere within a generation.

Purpose of Role

Provide strategic contribution to strengthen WASH policy work with a primary focus on sanitation and coordination endeavours for Sector Effectiveness programme which aims to influence to promote access to WASH for marginalized communities, through strengthening
systems to deliver sustainable and equitable WASH promoting the rights to water and sanitation.                                                               

Responsible for designing and delivery of sanitation policy and civil society networking to promote increased sanitation access to those that are left behind. Support the Sector . Effectiveness Program for designing, planning and management of the programme.



  • Identify issues, develop concept notes and coordinate support for policy research, advocacy and influencing initiatives
  • Prepare analytical papers (write up), provide inputs and support in dissemination of policy briefs / findings
  • Coordination and consultation with stakeholders
  • Engage in and capacity building support to partners and local level governments in the areas of WASH policies and regulations, particularly on Safely Managed Inclusive Sanitation and Faecal Sludge Management
  • Capacity building support to partners and local level governments for the preparation of Citywide Inclusive Sanitation Plans
  • Support in managing contracts with partners and consultants
  • Monitor and coach partners activities by frequent field visit to project locations
  • Analyse information and support partners to provide feedback to WaterAid Nepal
  • Prepare, update and upload periodic project progress reports in project centres
  • Cultivate and maintain functional relationships with relevant stakeholders including government and civil society mainly in areas of system strengthening
  • Represent WaterAid Nepal at relevant WASH coordination and influencing forums for exchange of experiences and knowledge
  • Ensure the highest standards of accountability through ensuring good communication and information sharing within and outside the organisation;


Person Specification


  • Masters Degree in WASH related areas preferably sanitation, social sciences, development economics or related field.
  • Five years of experience in a similar organisational/functional context
  • Multi-year track record in advocacy especially in research, documentation and dissemination
  • Practical knowledge and experience on sanitation
  • Understanding of the WASH sector in Nepal, key sector stakeholders and critical blockages and opportunities
  • Good understanding of local level governments/municipalities/governance
  • Good understanding of Human Rights Approaches
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills both in English and Nepali
  • Partnership/relationship management skills
  • Fully committed to WaterAid’s vision, mission and values and a way of working that demonstrates this, with the ability to communicate this enthusiasm to others.



  • Proven experience of preparing quality reports based on diverse donor needs
  • Knowledge and understanding of Result Based Framework
